Kharis Reading → “The main way God reveals Himself personally to people is through HIS WORD.” - Pastor David Antwi
This chapter is about the sentencing of, the crucifixion, death and burial of Jesus.
John 19:1

- fulfils the old testament atonement prophecy made by Isaiah (53:5). “he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
John 19:2-3

- making a crown of thorns for a crucifixion was not common during these times.
- They did this to mock Jesus and belittle him.
- The crown of thorns symbolised the royalty and majesty of a king hence the chants
- Jesus previously told Pilate that His kingdom was not of the world
- links with John 1:11 “He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.“
- They did not realise that Jesus was offering up his own life for us to fulfil the will of God
John 19:6

- the innocence of Christ is again affirmed
- important to note that it wasn’t the cries of the crowd to “crucify Him!” that put Jesus on the cross as it was our sins and the will of God
John 19:10-11

- Pilate seems to think that as he has ruled over places like Judea with intimidation that he could also intimidate Jesus
- instead, Jesus undermines his authority as he has none compared to the Almighty which only infuriates him more
